I was catching up with my friend Phil last week, who I truly believe is the greatest email marketer on planet earth, for our monthly “what’s working for you” right now catch-up. I met Phil on Twitter in 2021, and he has not only become a great friend of mine (sat at the table next to me at my wedding) but he and some of the designers on his team at Growth Pointe have taught me SO MUCH about email marketing.

ANYWAYS! I asked him the question everyone eventually runs into with email marketing: how do you keep coming up with ideas for all your clients that aren’t just “buy my product” or “book a call now”?

He laughed and said something that stuck with me: “no one has an idea problem, they have an awareness problem. The ideas are everywhere; you just don’t have a lens to see them.”

Then he broke down the seven angles he uses constantly for his clients at Growthe Pointe to drive crazy results. Once you see them, it’s almost impossible to run out of ideas again.

1. The Biggest Mistake Email

Every market is making a mistake, whether they realize it or not. Your job is to call it out clearly and confidently, then show how your product fixes it. This works because it immediately positions you as someone who understands the problem better than they do. It grabs attention in a crowded inbox because it challenges the reader right away.

2. The Education Email

Teach your audience something they didn’t know yesterday. Not surface-level fluff, but something that actually makes them pause and rethink what they know. When you consistently educate well, you build trust quickly. And once trust is there, selling becomes a natural next step instead of something that feels forced.

3. The “Secret” Email

This is essentially an education email wrapped in curiosity. People are wired to lean in when they feel like they’re getting access to something others don’t know. Framing matters here. The content might be similar to an educational email, but presenting it as a “secret” makes it far more compelling to open and read. 4. The FAQ Email

Your audience already has objections and questions, so instead of guessing what to say, just answer them. Pick a theme and address two or three of the most common concerns you hear. 6. The Myth-Buster Email

Every industry has beliefs that are outdated or just flat-out wrong. If you can identify one and challenge it in a credible way, you instantly stand out. You’re no longer repeating what everyone else is saying, you’re reshaping how people think. That’s a powerful position to be in.

7. The “What To Do If…” Email

Take a real problem your audience is dealing with and walk them through what to do. It’s simple, practical, and highly relatable. This naturally leads into your product because you’re already helping them solve the problem step by step.

👉 Nothing complicated. No overthinking. Just 7 repeatable ways to turn everyday observations into emails that convert.

By the end of my conversation with Phil, it was obvious. If you sat down for ten minutes with these angles, you could easily come up with twenty different email ideas. The bottleneck was never creativity, it was perspective.
