🚀 This Week's Growth Hack 🚀
Stop Vibe Coding. Build Marketing Systems Instead.
The AI Mistake Almost Every Marketer Is Making
A few months ago, if you had told me I would be building software, I would've laughed.
I've always been the "hire a developer" guy. If I wanted a custom calculator for my website, a client portal, or an internal dashboard for my team, I assumed it was going to cost thousands of dollars and take months to build. So like most marketers, I just duct-taped together Airtable, Notion, Google Sheets, Slack, and a handful of other tools and called it a day.
Then AI app builders came along.
Like everyone else, I immediately became addicted to vibe coding. I'd think of an idea over breakfast, type a prompt into an AI builder, and twenty minutes later I'd have something that looked incredible.
It felt like the future...
...until I actually tried using one of those apps to run part of my business.
The Difference Between a Demo and Software
That's when everything fell apart.
The app looked polished, but there was no real user authentication. No way to control what different team members could see. No "forgot password" functionality. No approval workflows. No database I could actually manage. No easy integrations with the rest of my marketing stack.
In other words, I hadn't built software.
I had built a really convincing prototype.
That realization completely changed how I think about AI.
Instead of asking AI to create another blog post, landing page, or email sequence, I started asking a different question:
"What repetitive marketing process can I eliminate forever?"
The Growth Hack:
Most marketers use AI to save minutes.
The real opportunity is using AI to save hours.
Instead of building another piece of content, build one internal marketing tool that your team uses every single day.
That's an asset.
And unlike another ChatGPT prompt or social media post, that asset keeps paying you back every week.
Four Marketing Apps I'd Build Tomorrow
If I had to start over today, these are the first four internal tools I'd build.
1. An Influencer CRM
Imagine tracking every creator you're working with in one place.
Outreach status. Contract status. Content deadlines. Deliverables. Payment status. Campaign performance.
No more jumping between spreadsheets and email threads.
2. A Client Portal
How many emails does your team send every week just answering questions like:
"Can you resend that report?"
"Can I review the latest creative?"
"Where do I upload feedback?"
Instead, give every client their own login where they can approve creative, download reports, view invoices, leave feedback, and track project progress.
3. A Campaign War Room
Every marketing campaign eventually turns into chaos.
Design is waiting on copy. Copy is waiting on approvals.
Paid media is waiting on creative.
Leadership wants an update.
Now everyone is bouncing between Slack, Asana, Notion, and Google Sheets trying to figure out what's happening.
Imagine replacing all of that with one dashboard where every task, asset, approval, and deadline lives.
That's the kind of software every marketing team should own.
4. A Content Approval Hub
Content creation has become a relay race.
Writers finish drafts.
Editors review them.
Design creates graphics.
Marketing signs off.
Someone schedules everything.
Most companies manage this with five different tools.
I'd rather have one system where every stakeholder logs in and sees exactly what they need to see.
Why Most AI Apps Never Make It Into Production
This is where I think most people misunderstand AI app builders.
Building the interface is actually the easy part. The hard part is everything you don't think about until someone else starts using it.
Who can log in?
Who can edit what?
What happens if someone forgets their password?
How do approvals work?
How do you connect it to the rest of your business?
How do you make sure Client A never sees Client B's data?
That's why I partnered with Softr for this week's newsletter. They gave me a link where everyone reading can claim 200 free AI credits, and what impressed me wasn't that it could build an app with AI, lots of tools can do that now.
It was everything happening behind the scenes.
While the AI is generating your app, it's also creating the database, authentication, user roles, permissions, workflows, and all the infrastructure that normally takes developers weeks to build. Then, instead of constantly prompting AI every time you want to make a change, you can simply edit everything visually.
If you want to see what that looks like, claim your 200 free AI credits here and try building one of the marketing tools above. Start with the process your team complains about the most.
My Challenge To You:
Every company has one marketing process everyone secretly hates.
Maybe it's client onboarding. Maybe it's campaign approvals. Maybe it's tracking influencers. Maybe it's collecting creative feedback.
Whatever it is, stop accepting it as "just the way we do things."
Build a better system.
If you're curious, Softr put together a special page for Growth Hacks Weekly readers where you can claim 200 free AI credits and start building one of these tools yourself. I'd recommend using the credits on something you'll still be using six months from now—not something you'll demo once and forget about.
Open a blank piece of paper.
Write down the three marketing processes your team repeats every single week.
Now ask yourself one question:
"If I had custom software built specifically for this process, what would it do?"
Then use those 200 free AI credits to build it.
Because the biggest opportunity with AI isn't creating more marketing.
It's building better marketing systems.
