Ranking The TOP Growth Hacks of 2024

This year, I shared dozens of growth hacks but some stood out as absolute game-changers. After acquiring the brand, the infamous investor wrote a letter to the company sharing his vision for the company. When you dig into that letter, you’ll see it’s actually a brilliant 3 part marketing strategy. Warren Buffet’s growth strategies for See’s Candy are timeless marketing gold:

  • Luxury Packaging: Present your product in a way that reflects its premium quality. Use elegant packaging, minimalist design, or for us in the 2024, a refined digital branding to elevate perception.

  • Education: Tell your brand’s story to build emotional connections. Highlight craftsmanship, heritage, or unique selling points through storytelling or tailored content.

  • Exclusivity: Create scarcity to drive demand. Offer limited editions, enforce territorial limits, or implement waitlists to make your product feel special and desirable.

2 - The Growth Hacks Behind CodeAcademy’s $525m Exit

Codecademy’s success taught us the power of gamification to keep users engaged. Unlike competitors with passive learning models, they used interactive elements like badges, rewards, and levels to motivate learners and celebrate progress. This approach made learning fun and habit-forming, driving long-term retention.

  • Incentivize Progress: Reward users with badges, points, or certificates for hitting milestones.

  • Create Streaks: Encourage consistent engagement with "hot streaks" or daily challenges.

  • Make It Interactive: Replace passive experiences with hands-on tools or quizzes to maintain interest.

3 - The 7 Winning Creative Ad Frameworks

High-performing ads follow proven frameworks, and these seven were a masterclass in simplicity and effectiveness.

  • Feel-Felt-Found (FFF): Empathize with the customer’s pain, share a relatable experience, and present your product as the cure.

  • Picture-Promise-Prove-Push (PPPP): Paint a vision, promise a solution, prove results, and end with a strong CTA.

  • Problem-Solution Framework: Start with a pain point and tease how your product is their answer.

  • Short Problem-Solution: Briefly pose the problem and immediately present your product as the answer.

  • 3 Reasons Why: Highlight three benefits of your product. Short, sweet, and powerful.

  • Before-After-Bridge: Show the customer’s current problem, a future without it, and how your product bridges the gap.

  • Spy Life: Analyze competitor reviews for insights, then create ads addressing those pain points or highlighting strengths.

4 - One + One = 178%

Brands combining affiliate marketing & influencer marketing saw up to 178% more sales, especially in health and beauty.

  • Combine Payment Structures: Use hybrid payment models (e.g., flat fee + commission) to motivate influencers and affiliates.

  • Cross-Pollinate Content: Share influencer content with affiliates to amplify its reach and arm affiliates with high-converting content.

  • Track the Full Journey: Use easy tracking software to dial in attribution and analyze how influencer awareness drives affiliate sales weeks later.

My takeaway: Don’t just run strategies on two different channels, see how two channels can work together to create a full-funnel marketing strategy leading to outsized results.

5 - Apple’s $700m Masterclass In Exclusivity

Their Vision Pro launch exemplifies how to market any product, not just revolutionary ones, by creating desirability and targeting ideal customers. Their strategy was rooted in exclusivity, buzz, and precision targeting.

  • Create Buzz: Apple generated anticipation with strategic leaks and their iconic "One more thing…" launch event at WWDC.

  • Start in Luxury: A $3,499 price point ensured only early adopters with high buying power could access the product, increasing its allure.

  • Target the Right Press: Apple focused on tech outlets like Wired and Engadget to reach affluent tech enthusiasts.

  • Influencer Partnerships: Partnered with top-tier influencers like Marques Brownlee to amplify credibility and reach.
