You ever feel like you know exactly what your audience wants... but then you run an ad or send a cold email and no one clicks/responds/engages?
Yeah. That was me a few weeks ago.
You see, I recently launched a new offer, a service called Max AI. It came out of something I did just for myself. I had my legit AI wizard friend, Nathan, audit my entire business portfolio to figure out where AI automations could save time or make more money. He found dozens. So I had him start building them all out.
The results? Stupid good. So good, I decided to partner with him to offer the same audits and automations to you guys, my 200,000+ daily active newsletter subscribers.
Naturally, I leaned into the benefit I thought everyone would care most about... saving time! Because everyone says all people care about in B2B is saving time and money, so I ran an ad with this tagline:
“⏰ Wish there were more hours in the week?”
aaaaand crickets. One booked call.
I was confused. Frankly, frustrated. Saving time is supposed to be the holy grail! I always say to lead with the thing your target audience wakes up every morning wanting. And what entrepreneur doesn’t want more time back?
But clearly, the message wasn’t landing.
So I went back to the drawing board, asking myself what’s a question our ideal client wakes up asking every day… and came up with:
“🤖 Not sure where to use AI in your business?”
Boom!
Booked calls started rolling in.
And here’s the craziest part... On nearly every call, the person said the exact same thing:
“I know I need to use AI in my business. I just don’t know where to start.”
That’s when it hit me… My original value prop (save time) was logical. But my new value prop (clarity on what to do with AI) was emotional.
The second tagline didn’t just offer a benefit… it addressed the main fear. The fear that you're falling behind. That your competitors are out-AI-ing you. That you're missing out on huge efficiencies, but don’t even know where to begin.
We are offering AI anxiety relief, not time relief.
🤔 So, what is this week’s growth hack?
It’s asking this clarity question:
“What sentence is my ideal customer already saying in their head?”
Because if your tagline can mirror that exact internal dialogue, especially one laced with anxiety, confusion, or urgency… you’ll have people foaming at the mouth to book, buy, or learn more.
Why This Hack Works:
We solved for confusion, not inconvenience.
Most people aren’t sitting around thinking, “I need more time.” They are thinking, “I don’t know how to keep up with AI.”We made it about them, not you.
“I save 10 hours a week” is nice.
“You don’t know where to start” hits different.We named the internal dialogue (the real MVP I think)
People literally said the words that matched the headline: “I don’t know where to start.” That’s lightning in a bottle. When your copy matches the sentence in someone’s head, you win.We sold the first step, not the whole staircase.
Most people don’t want to “hire an AI team.” They just want to talk to someone who can show them where to start… We are giving you an AI onramp.
How You Can Use This:
Here are 3 questions to get to your better tagline:
What anxiety does my audience feel but rarely say out loud?
What sentence are they saying in their head, but not typing into Google?
What’s the smallest, clearest next step I can offer them — that feels like relief?
And one bonus exercise I always do:
Write out 5 variations of your tagline, each tapping into a different emotion:
Confusion: “Not sure where to start with X?”
Fear: “Is your competitor already doing X better than you?”
Stress: “Still doing X the hard way?”
Greed: “Unlock the X your competitors haven’t figured out yet.”
Hope: “This might be the easiest way to finally X.”
The best one is usually the one you’re a little scared to use!
So go on, dangle the carrot your audience actually cares about.
