My 3 Steps To Fix Your Marketing
Ever feel like youāre throwing time and money into marketing and itās just not working? Youāre not alone, most brands I meet with say this word for word. Well I recently had the chance to dive deep into why this is during a podcast interview, where I broke down the 3 easiest ways to fix your marketing and finally start seeing results from your time and money investment.
But the strategy I break down is this weekās Growth Hack:
Step 1: Crafting a Killer Hero Message
First things first, if your marketing message doesnāt get your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) to do a double take or stop in their tracks to pay more attention, everything else you do will fail. How do you create a message that gets your ICP to double-take? You have to start by understanding who your target ICP really is and what they want most.
Too many brands preach what their product or service is instead of fighting out what their customers care most about when it comes to buying from them, and just leading with thatā¦ No idea what Iām saying? Here are some examples:
E-Commerce Example: I was working with a beauty brand a few years back who told me their target clientele was Gen Z. So they made sure all of their products were super clean. But their ads and website talked all about the plethora of color options they had. We changed all their ads and landing pages to āThe only lipstick brand that doesnāt use lead or heavy metals but still ahs 50+ colors to choose fromā and their sales went through the roof! Why? Because we took a second to listen to our customers, ask what they look for most in their purchasing decision, and plastered the answer everywhere!
B2B Example: The first two years of growing my agency, we had no way to stand out from other agency and creating a message that really resonated with our target clientele. Then when we workshopped our target ICP in conference room C of our coworking space, we realized most of our clients are startups who:
1. Need to make their ad spend go farther than normal
2. Have never heard of the term āROASā before
And because we averaged a 4X Return On Ad Spend, we asked ourselves how can we preach a 4X ROAS to an audience that doesnāt even know what ROAS stands for? So we came up with
āWe help companies make $4 for every $1 they spend on digital adsā
And our sales went through the rough very quickly. Because we took an extra split second (or an hour in conference room C) to really think who our target ICP is and whatās most important to them in the purchase decision.
This idea isnāt just about being catchy; itās about speaking directly to the benefits and outcomes your customers crave. Thatās how you turn heads and open wallets.
Step 2: The Power of Presence Across Channels
Remember the old saying, āout of sight, out of mindā? Well, it couldnāt be more accurate in marketing. To effectively reach your audience, you need to be everywhere they are, all the time.
Think about how you consume content. You might see an ad on Instagram, hear a podcast mention, and get an email newsletter all from the same brand within a week. By the time youāre ready to make a purchase, that brand feels familiarāalmost like an old friend. Thatās the magic of the ārule of fifths,ā which suggests that people need to encounter your brand at least five times before theyāre ready to buy. There are many easy ways to do this, but the easiest way is step 3ā¦
Step 3: Stay Top-of-Mind with Retargeting Ads
Once youāve got your āKiller Hero Messageā aka Step 1 aboveā¦ itās time to plaster it everywhere. The easiest way to do this is with retargeting ads on Meta. Theyāre like the digital equivalent of a friendly nudge, reminding potential customers that youāre still there, ready to solve their problems.
Simply record you talking about that #1 thing your customers care more about or get some customers/clients to record a video saying they got that result you promised them ā¦ and stand up a $5/day retargeting ad showing your ad to people who visited your website or saw any of your ads in the last 180 daysā¦ Set the objection to impressions and watch your conversion rates skyrocket my friend!
In Summary: Itās About Strategy, Not Luck
Regardless of what you are currently investing your precious time and money into today, these 3 things will help fix those investments ASAP.
If you are currently cold emailing, using Step 1 above will help make your cold email more efficient.
If you are currently working with influencers, using Step 2 above will help you get your Killer Hero Message out to people multiple times.
If you are already driving traffic to your website, using Step 3 will help convert those window-shoppers into customers.
Donāt just read this newsletter and delete it though. Calendar block an hour this week to do the core ICP exercise and figure out what it is that your core ICP wants most in their purchase decision, then go plaster that everywhere.
