🚀 This Week’s Growth Hack:
How to increase revenue by 34% in 5 minutes
Early on in my career I was at a conference in NYC when someone on stage said “by switching all of our call to action buttons to a particular shade of green, we were able to 2X our free trial sign-ups” and my mind was blown.
I knew all about testing images and taglines and pictures on a landing page, even the text inside of a button, but the button color?! That blew my mind!
So I immediately googled to learn more about this from my phone while sitting there and stumbled across this amazing blog article that detailed out different button tests and their outcomes. I bookmarked it on my swipe file all the way back then and recently used it as inspo for some landing page tests I was doing this week. So I thought to share their findings for this Week’s Growth Hack along with my signature examples! (the full blog is linked at the end).
The crazy thing to think about for this Growth Hack is that it can take 5 minutes to set up an AB test of your button colors… But if you can find one color that increases clicks by 34% … if everything else holds, you just increased your revenue by 35% as well 🙂 All for 5 minutes of work.
Case Study 1: Dmix tested green and red button colors on a landing page for a SaaS product. They found that the red button converted 34% better than the green button. See here:
Case Study 2: Unbounce tested different button colors on a landing page for a digital marketing agency. They found that the orange button converted 20% better than the blue button.
They have more case studies on the blog which you can review here but if you want my signature examples, see here:
E-com example: you should be testing different colors of the “buy now” button on your product pages and even on the “add to cart” button on your collection pages! If you can increase add to carts by 34% simply by changing the button color and your conversion rate holds, you just increased revenue 34% BOOM!
Software example: you should be testing different button colors on your pricing page and on your sign-up form! If you can increase free trial sign-ups by 34% simply by changing the button color like the 1st case study above, and your free trial conversion rate holds, you just increased revenue 34% BOOM!
Agency example: you should be testing the button colors on your landing pages’ forms’ submit button but also on the actual “get in touch” or “contact us” button in the header of your website. I used CrazyEgg to AB test the button color of my old agency’s “Get In Touch” button in the top right corner of our website between read and black and saw red increase button clicks by 29% which netted an extra 3 leas for me a month… Just from testing button colors!
➡️ Great marketers optimize their button clicks by testing colors!
Are you gonna run an AB test on your buttons this week?
