🚀 This Week’s Growth Hack: Stealing The Luxury Resort Playbook
I got married last weekend! And even though it was my wedding weekend, if you are anything like me, you couldn’t turn your marketing brain off either… Well, we splurged (you only get married once right?) and stayed at a local luxury resort that had me taking notes on their marketing and branding left and right.
So I thought for this week’s Growth Hack, I would share 4 things I picked up on and how you might be able to “steal” each:
1/ It’s not a “shuttle” to the beach, it’s a “trolly” even though it looks just like a shuttle bus
Steal it: I’m a huge fan of calling things a fancier version of what they actually are! Your blog isn’t a blog. It’s a magazine. Your intro call is not an intro call. It’s a strategy / gameplan call. Your summer sale is not a summer sale. It’s a summer event. Your most popular items page isn’t just a list of your most popular items, they are your fan favorites.
2/ It’s not a suite, it’s an “ocean view suite” even though every room on the property was a suite and every room had an ocean view…
Steal it: This is my favorite of the 4! Simply labeling things that might be assumed is a reminder of just how special that thing is in the first place. A great example of that would be a car dealership calling a car “certified pre-owned” even though every car sold there is inspected and certified.
3/ It’s not a “free welcome drink” served on a tray but instead a “welcome drink of your choice” you can choose from the bar
Steal it: Say you are an e-commerce brand that’s giving away a gift with purchase… You ever seen those spend $100 and get a free hat at stores before? Well if you wanna steal this resort’s thing, you can give people the option of which free thing they want! It’s small but it makes you feel like you are in control and gives the vibe that the brand just wants you to be happy and get exactly what you like 🙂
4/ The resort manager on duty greets you and checks you in to make you feel extra important / special
Steal it: Use one of those video embed tools to put a video widget in the corner of your site from your founder introducing themselves, sharing the story of why they started the brand, being over appreciative about the visitors’ interest in their business, and giving their personal email (could be a different email that a VA checks) saying if the site visitor needs anything they can drop them a note…
