🚀 This Week’s Growth Hack: 500k IG Followers In 4 Months
Twitter personality and Metaverse influencer Roberto Nickson recently grew his personal Instagram account to 150,000 followers and his two businesses’ accounts to a combined 350,000 followers all by taking advantage of some insights from Instagram’s CEO.
That’s right! Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s CEO recently explained exactly how their algorithm works to rank stories, feeds, reels, and explore page content.
Here are the insights he tapped into to grow his IG accounts blazing fast:
How To Rank For IG Stories
Your stories will be prioritized in your followers’ feeds if there is a high probability the story will be opened, replied to, and reacted to. The signals IG looks for most when predicting this is:
Your historical view data, engagement data, and responses to that story (DMs to you, the story poster). Basically, the more likely someone is to take tap your profile picture at the top of their IG feed and respond, and comment, the more likely IG is to prioritize your IG stories!
How To Rank For IG Feed Posts
Mosseri said the moment someone opens up the app, IG’s goal is to get that user caught up with the very best of IG since they last opened the app.
So for every post on the platform, IG predicts how likely you are to comment, like, share, top on your profile, and spend time viewing the post.
They do this by looking at the following signals:
Your history of interacting with that users’ posts, the context of the post itself (like if the users always engages with pictures of cars and you just posted a picture of a car), and info about the poster.
How To Rank For IG Reels
Mosseri said the #1 goal for Reels it to entertain you & they are currently prioritizing videos from accounts that you do not follow. Roberto, the gentleman who grew his accounts to 500,000 followers in 4 months, emphasizes that Reels are THE BIGGEST growth opportunity right now.
Reels ranking algo works slightly different. First, they look at what type of reels you interact with most, which type of other people interact with that same content, and look at what other content the people who like the content you like, interact with that is different from what you normally watch. Then, after that, they go to a similar ranking algo / decision tree:
Namely, how likely are you to finish watching the whole reel, share the reel, or check out the audio file of the reel for other videos that used that same audio…
In Summary
The #1 thing you should be doing with stories is getting people to share them and respond to them so IG shares your story more
The #1 thing you should be doing with Feed posts is optimizing your content for max comments, shares, and likes.
The #1 thing you should be doing for Reels is creating videos that get people to watch all the way through and is similar to other content on the platform but is still unique and original
Great Marketers and Entrepreneurs will these insights to grow on IG this week, grow their brand awareness, and their business!
